Donna Reed played Miss Ellie Ewing Farlow during the 1984-1985 season.  Howard Keel played Miss Ellie's second husband, Clayton Farlow from 1981 until the series ended in 1991.

William Smithers played Jeremy Wendell, an enemy of the Ewing family in seasons 4 and 5 and then again from season 8 to season 12.

Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark played Gary and Valene Ewing during a season 3 episode before spinning off into the series "Knots Landing."

Priscilla Pointer played Rebecca Barnes Wentworth, the long-lost mother of Cliff and Pamela during seasons 4, 5 and 6. 

Susan Flannery played press agent Leslie Stewart in eleven episodes in 1981.

Mary Crosby played Sue Ellen's younger sister, Kristin Shepard, who was J.R.'s mistress and later tried to kill him at the end of season 3.

David Wayne played Willard "Digger" Barnes, father of Cliff, stepfather of Pamela and ex-business partner of Jock Ewing in four 1978 episodes.  

Keenan Wynn played Willard "Digger" Barnes in ten episodes during season 3.

Jim Davis played patriarch John Ross "Jock" Ewing, Sr. in the series first 75 episodes.  Davis passed away on April 26, 1981, and the character of Jock Ewing was killed off in the middle of season 5.
