During the show's first three seasons it was called "Make Room for Daddy" and the title changed at the beginning of season four to "The Danny Thomas Show."  After season four the series moved from ABC to CBS.  Jean Hagen played Danny's first wife Margaret from 1953 to 1956 and then left the series.  Danny Williams spent some time as a widower before meeting Kathy O'Hara (Lord) and remarrying.

The series also featured Rusty Hamer, Angela Cartwright, Hans Conried, Sherry Jackson, Penney Parker, Louise Beavers and Amanda Randolph.

Several actors made recurring appearances on the show.  The list includes Sid Melton, Pat Carroll, Mary Wickes, Sheldon Leonard, Pat Harrington, Jr., Gale Gordon, Jesse White, Bill Dana, Annette Funicello and Piccola Pupa.
