 Dame Angela Lansbury played widow, retired 10th grade English teacher turned mystery writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher for twelve seasons.

even though Lansbury was the series only regular cast member frequent recurring guest stars appeared including William Windom as Dr. Seth Hazlitt, Michael Horton as Grady Fletcher, Debbie Zipp as Donna Mayberry Fletcher, Claude Akins as Ethan Cragg, Tom Bosley as Sheriff Amos Tupper, Julie Adams as Eve Simpson, Ron Masak as Sheriff Morton Metzger, Jerry Orbach as Harry McGraw, Len Cariou as Michael Haggerty, Keith Michell as Dennis Stanton, Wayne Rogers as Charlie Garrett, Herb Edelman as Lieutenant Artie Gelber, Gregory Sierra as Lieutenant Gabriel Caceras, Louis Herthum as Deputy Andy Broom, Will Nye as Deputy Floyd, Richard Paul as Mayor Sam Booth and character actors Ken Swofford and Bradford Dillman as various characters.
