Fred Sanford vs. Mrs. May Hopkins
During the fifth season of "Sanford and Son", Fred (Redd Foxx) and Lamont (Demond Wilson) open a boarding house on the property located next to their junkyard. One of their more memorable tenants was Mrs. May Hopkins played by Nancy Kulp. Kulp was a long time character actress who is best remembered as Miss Jane Hathaway on "The Beverly Hillbillies." Mrs. Hopkins was the mother of Fred and Lamont's cop friend "Hoppy" (Howard Platt) and she was never shy about standing up to her impatient landlord. Mrs. Hopkins appeared in five episodes during the 1975-1976 season and her signature line was always "Well I never..." and Fred always had a response that would send her speeding from the room.
