 The sitcom set in Mel's Diner began on this day 46 years ago! Linda Lavin, Polly Holliday and Beth Howland as Alice, Flo and Vera! The series also starred Vic Tayback, Philip McKeon, Diane Ladd, Celia Weston and Charles Levin Special guest stars included Eve Arden, Desi Arnaz, George Burns, Art Carney, Martha Raye, Ruth Buzzi, Robert Goulet, Joel Grey, Jay Leno, Rue McClanahan, Donald O'Connor, Janis Paige, Debbie Reynolds, Jerry Stiller, Eileen Heckart, Doris Roberts and Telly Savalas.

 Jane Wyman shifted from film to television and began hosting "The Fireside Theatre" on this day 67 years ago.  In addition to hosting, she also acted in over 45 episodes of the series.
